Inspired by one of the best horror soundtracks of all time, this pack channels the haunting sounds crafted by Fred Myrow and Malcolm Seagrave for Phantasm. Phantasm is a 1979 American science fantasy horror film directed, written, photographed, and edited by Don Coscarelli. It was a locally financed independent film featuring a cast and crew of mostly amateurs and aspiring professionals. After initial mixed reviews, it went on to become a cult classic appearing on several critics' lists of best horror films and cited as an influence on later horror series.
The soundtrack was influenced by Goblin and Mike Oldfield, featuring some of the earliest synthesizers in a score. Though Phantasm may have been his most famous soundtrack, Myrow also composed the soundtracks for Soylent Green starring Charlton Heston and Scarecrow with Al Pacino and Gene Hackman. He was composer in residence of the Los Angeles Theatre Center in the mid-1980s, and before that at the New York Philharmonic. By the time of his death in 1999, he had scored dozens of films, collaborated on numerous theater projects, and released albums.
We don't know much about Seagrave other than that as a composer, he had the benefit of an extensive background in classical and chamber music. And that for many years, he was a college music professor before bolting from the academic world to write an opera.
