Soul Serum Keys with Harold O’Neal

Featured story

Soul Serum Keys is a secret weapon

When you think of Serum, you probably think of laser-cut leads and bubbling bass lines, alien atmospheres, out-of-this-world sounds. But jazz? Or soul? Not usually. Surprisingly, the wave-scanning synth is just as suited to the warm memories of the past as it is the cold conjuring of the future. Especially when you hand it over to pianist Harold

O’Neal, who has played keys on all sorts of projects, from releases with Jay-Z to appearances on Boardwalk Empire.

O’Neal visited the Splice Studios to lay down some melodic lines, midi meanderings, and more. He played a number of arrangements with a jazz and soul feel, and we chopped them into loops, one-shots, midi lines, and Serum presets that preserve his unique timing and attack. Soul Serum Keys a secret-weapon pack, designed for tracks that require a particular set of skills.
