ADE Sessions: Locked Groove

How to sample curiosity with Locked Groove

Locked Groove’s catalog boasts an incredible amount of variation, with his prolific career playing out across an impressive catalog of releases and culminating in his newest effort, Sunset Service, which is both frenetically exploratory and infectiously confident.

From murky Chicago house to trouble-brewing techno to God-what-do-we-call-this?, the continuum is LG’s catalog is his curiosity. An unflappable allegiance to his interests over listener expectations ensures that he stays locked to ideas more than styles or genres, and that those ideas always promise something even bigger beyond the next bar.

ADE Sessions: Locked Groove is a sample pack that perfectly encapsulates everything that fascinated him in a moment. We recorded his performance at ADE in Amsterdam as he went wild on a range of beautiful and broken instruments, from crunchy drums to never-touched theremins to synths that cough analog dust. All the mics and instruments went through a one-of-a-kind Phillips console, which adds a bit of character while stitching it all together into a cacophonous quilt.
