Cellist Hadas Kleinman is known for her ability to use the cello to transform feeling into sound. She’s performed on every major stage you can think of, and many you can’t, but hearing her performances without other instrumentation, the reverb of a huge theater, or audience applause made her sound even more emotive. Each note resonates like a raw nerve.
We knew we had to capture her sound as realistically as we could. It was the only way to ensure we didn’t lose any part of her instrument’s expressive tone, while also leaving room for effects and post processing.
To capture Hadas’ performance, we made a M/S recording with a Warm Audio WA-47 Vintage Tube as a main mic in omni arrangement, and an AKG 414 in a figure-8 pattern.
The sample pack that came from the recordings is incredibly powerful and versatile. (It’s amazing how much meaning she can infuse in a single pluck.) The loops and one-shots are perfect for an uplifting house cut, an 808-infused trap thumper, a somber movie score, or anything else you can arrange.
