Indian Roots Vol 2

Featured story

The migration of sounds, instruments, and tradition

Recorded on location in the south of India at Kosmik Studios, this pack is a culmination of several trips to India to work with folk musicians there.

Due to India's vast cultural diversity, songs and sounds are sung in various languages and dialects throughout the nation and exported to different parts of the world as its people migrate. From the peppy bhangra of Punjab to Garba of Gujarat to Bhavageete of Karnataka, almost every region in India has its own style which reflects the way of life.

Though folk music has lost its popularity in India, giving way to rap and hip hop, we believe the traditions of folk music can be carried on in modern production techniques. We hope you experiment with these sounds in your production and pay homage to the rich, layered culture they represent. These sounds were recorded with an API preamp with the Apogee converter and on a Neumann m149 and 148 between the years 2002 and 2012.
