The ethos of bedroom pop has always been to make the most of what’s available to you. Producer Ben Bromley dubbed his first beats in the mid-90s passing tapes back and forth between two decks. Then he’d layer a hand-me-down guitar, an old keyboard, and beats made from a DOS version of Impulse Tracker using an 8-bit Sound Blaster—the only sound card available to a then pre-teen with a PC cobbled together from spare parts.
This egalitarian technology featured the Yamaha YM3812 chip, the first chip to make FM synthesis affordable to the masses—the same chip used in making this pack. We hope this pack gives you the tools you need while inspiring you to make the most of what’s available.
