A pristine harmony is not easy to come by but Jarell Perry can be relied on to deliver them. In the quickly rising new-school class of alt-R&B, Jarell Perry is paving his own lane. His critically-acclaimed LP “Simple Things” and follow-up EP, “White” mix flavors of electronic-soul, indie-blues, and pop, drawing comparisons to cross-over heavyweights like Miguel and Frank Ocean. But as URB Magazine puts it, “what sets him apart from this new breed of talents is a much fuller and developed vocal quality…sublime perfection…”
Perry's more recent project is a five-track genre-bender entitled “Shift” (Time No Place/Kompakt Records), made in collaboration with Toronto producer, Deebs. FACT magazine lauded it's experimental sound as "immediate" and Complex named it one of the best EPs of 2015.
We captured his incredible voice with an Avedis Audio Ma5 pre-amp and a favorite Bock 47 with a kiss of compression from a CL1B at Aura Studios in Brooklyn, then we layered and processed some of it with VocalSynth and left other bits raw.
The pack that came from it is one of our favorites, full of emotional, epiphanic vocal lines, heartfelt harmonies, and melodies you could use in any production, from soulful downtempo and R&B to hip hop and Sunday-morning pageants.
