High Tea Music is back on Splice with their third release, “High Tea Melodic Jump Up and Future Neuro”. This time, they venture into the futuristic realms of Drum & Bass, stepping away from their signature dancefloor sound. In this interview
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is a blend of different types of energetic Drum & Bass, ranging from mellow liquid to jump-up influenced dancefloor, characterized by euphoric melodies, catchy hooks, and high-energy rhythms. We aim to create music that is both uplifting and infectious.
What was the inspiration behind this pack?
In the past we’ve already released 2 dancefloor DnB packs that covered our signature sound. We always did this in collaboration with other artists, making use of everyone's expertise, since we really wanted to create something that was on point and useful that would instantly lift the tracks of producers using those packs to another level. Since we felt that for now, we’ve explored our signature dancefloor sound more than enough, we wanted to bring that same philosophy to the more modern types of drum & bass; melodic jump-up and, and melodic techy, neurofunk, since we’ve been playing those sub-genres a lot in our sets and also released those type of tracks a lot on our record label recently. And again, for this pack we brought in a lot of other producers that are true masters of sound design in these sub-genres.
How do you hope producers use the sounds in your pack?
We hope that producers use these samples to quickly build ideas that already sound great right from the get-go and then tweak those sounds to fit their personal style and preference. Back in the day, we used to do this as well with EDM samples. The great benefit these days is that you can find samples that are already catered to a specific genre (like our new sample pack), so making them fit your track requires less tweaking than it used to when we started out 10+ years ago.
What piece of advice do you give to yourself starting out in music?
What we personally learned is that first of all and most important, it should be about the music. We’ve experienced getting lost in the world of sound design, which can be fun in its own way. Later down the line, we learned that often it’s best to not reinvent the wheel and make use of all the samples and presets out there. Making good music is the goal and it doesn’t matter how you get there. Secondly, we’ve learned that once you have good music, it’s important to stay focused on all aspects of a music career; releasing regularly, doing shows, creating social media content, making plans for the future, etc. And if it’s all too much, partner up with people to help you with those things (managers, agents, etc).
